Victor Sgarbi
Victor’s solo career began when still as a student of Classical Singing at the Universidade Tom Jobim in Sao Paulo, performing the baritone role in Carmina Burana under the direction of maestro Parcival Modolo accompanied by the Rio Claro orchestra. The following year joining the OSESP (www.osesp.art.br) performing as a soloist with this accoladed ensemble. Works included Mozart's Requiem, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Purcell's Dido and Eneas, Haydn’s Missa In Tempori Belli and Monteverdi's Vespers. Subsequently specialising in Opera and Oratorio, taking several roles fully staged operas including: both Marcello and Schaunard from La Boheme, Conte Almaviva from The Marriage of Figaro, Belcore from L'Elisir d'Amor; Il Conte di Luna from Il Trovatore, Baritone role from the Stravinsky's Les Noces, Uncle Ernie from the The Who's Tommy amongst others. His Oratorio repertoire also includes Handel’s Messiah and Alexander's Feast, Mozart's Mass in C minor, Verdi's Requiem, Mendelsohn's Elijah, several os Bach's works and symphonies including Beethoven's 9th. In 2006 he devised a solo concert programme comprising romantic arias from several operas, together with Shumann's Liederkreis (Opus 24). In 2005 he performed as a soloist with the English ensemble Collegium Musicum of London in Handel's Chandos Anthems, and as Hymen in Purcell's The Fairy Queen, also performing in Purcell's Ode to Santa Cecilia and several Bach's cantatas. Also in 2007, singing in a series of concerts of medieval and baroque music from Spain and the Latin-Americas with the Baroque Ensemble of Sao Paulo. In London, 2008, Victor performed Bach's St Johns Passion at St John Smith Square, and the Mass in B minor at St. James, in Piccadilly. In 2009, he joined the Insieme to perform at the Lauderdale House, and the Platinum Consort: a vocal ensemble specialized in early music from the 16th and 17th centuries.
